The Inaugural Fairways & Fiesta event at the Olivas Links and the historic Olivas Adobe on Saturday, September 8 with more than 150 people enjoying a day of golf, dancing, and great food while raising funds for the youth of Ventura. The event raised more than $13,000 which will go towards youth recreation scholarships to be used by our most vulnerable children who do not have the means to participate in City of Ventura Parks, Recreation & Community Partnerships programs.
The day opened on the golf course with golfers treated to swag bags, and beverages as they played a nine-hole scramble. After the tournament, participants headed up to the Olivas Adobe where they were entertained by great music and an excellent silent auction! Attendees heard from Mike Anderson, host of a road radio program on NewsTalk 1590 KVTA. Mike spoke about the scholarships he received when he was younger and how those experiences shaped him into the person he is now.
They also heard from the VCPF Board President, Kevin Clerici, who read from a letter from a parent of a youth recreation scholarship recipient which stated, “After a few rough years adjusting to being a single parent, I was so grateful to receive the parks and recreation’s scholarship opportunity for my children. Without them, I would not have been able to give them the joy and learning experiences they got through the programs. I am very grateful that our community offers people in all walks of life and economic status the ability to participate in the joys of these programs. Many thanks, with the intention to pay this forward always!”
The event, sponsored by Mountains 2 Beach Marathon and Half, Aera Energy, Citizens for Energy Independence, Amigo Party Rentals, Beverlee’s Bartending, Cumulus Media, Conway Ice, Luners, MadeWest Brewing, and Nothing Bundt Cakes, will benefit many youth in our community.
